Wow, this is my third post today, I have to make it up for my-no-post last week. So most of you, unless you have a vintage, retro and bohemian kind of style, for sure you won't be familiar with a midi skirt, simply know as a skirt that is below your knees length or even longer. I'm not a fan of this midi skirt as I have to walk everyday to wherever I want to go, and in this country where it's summer all year round like Singapore, it's kinda inconvenience. But well, as a fashion blogger, I need to update latest popular trends all over the world. Midi skirts are key trend this Autumn Winter 2013 and I can't deny how hot is this midi skirt right now. It's quite hard for a newbie to learn how to wear this skirt, as it won't look good on all type of body, so today I will give you some tips and inspiration on how to wear those lovely classic midi skirts you saw on movies or on world's top fashion magazines, in a modern & fashionable way.
Let's look at a brief history of midi skirts first, some of you are curious, aren't you?
Midi skirts were a popular trend in the 1940s, the decade of elegance. In the 60s, things changed, people no longer listed midi skirts on their wish list, it was replaced with mini skirts as women started to love showing off their legs. In 1970s, midi skirts were predicted by fashion experts to be the hot item of the 1970s, however, the reality didn't come as expected. Only until 2011 when fashion designers blow a new flow of wind into midi skirts with their creativity and designed it in different new shapes and cuttings, in many different type of fabric materials, made it more convenience, wearable and suit any girl easier, they have brought midi skirts a new life. It's more adventurous than you actually think to be able to look nice in a midi skirt. But it is elegance and very ladylike so once you know how to wear it, you gonna look awesome. Take a look on these tips, which I find out by my personal experience and instinct, to make it easier for you guys.
1. Try on different length of the midi skirt, from below the knees to above the ankles to find out what length is perfectly fit for you. If you have long leg, most of you will look awesome in any length, no doubt, but if you have short one, it will took you a while to discover the best length for you.
2. If you are short, try not to wear a midi skirts with a totally flat shoes unless you have no other choice. Midi skirt might makes some girls look very short so wear it at least with a few cm heels. Of course if you are tall, you have long legs and high waist, anything will look nice on you.
3. Midi skirts go well with minimalist chic style, so don't put on so many layers of accessory. You will look too busy and trust me you don't wanna try it. 3 layers is just right, your top, your jacket and your midi skirt, complete with a simple necklace and some bracelets. You will look good even with no accessories. In this case, less is more.
4. Midi skirts most of the time look nice with a blazer, leather and denim jacket. Try it out. Pull the sleeves up for a more street wear look.
5. Wearing a below knees length skirt doesn't mean your top has to be dowdy with 1 boring color. Try to match your skirt with a trendy top with statements, graphic prints and neon details. Just remember, always find some connection between your top, bottom and accessories.
6. For your safety, complete your look with a clutch or a tote bag like Prada Saffiano, Celine luggage tote or Michael Kors Selma. Dior Lady and Chanel Boy is a good choice too, all kind of ladylike elegance bags would suit midi skirts perfectly.
7. Midi skirts go well with ankle boots. Still, if you are short and you don't have skinny legs, I don't recommend you to wear ankles boots. But, if you are a real fan of boots, wear it, but choose kind of loose boots to make your legs look skinnier.
8. Wear you midi skirt with white blouse, red shoes and black sunglasses to get a London's style.
9. Midi skirts go nice with a long wide scarf.
